Where is Benshaw located?
Answer: Benshaw's corporate headquarters is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Manufacturing operations, service centers and warehouses are strategically located across North America and beyond.

Who should I contact if I need spare or replacement parts for a Benshaw product I've purchased?
Answer: Benshaw maintains a large inventory of spares, replacement parts and electrical/electronic components for immediate shipment anywhere in the world. If your Benshaw control is covered under a factory warranty, contact Benshaw directly for replacement parts and service. Spares, components and replacement parts for control products no longer covered by warranty may be purchased through Benshaw or through an authorized Benshaw distributor.

Does Benshaw sell direct to end users?
Answer: Benshaw sells direct to original equipment manufacturers, but typically sells industrial control products through our global network of authorized distributors. You can purchase direct from Benshaw in areas not currently serviced by an authorized distributor.
Feel free to contact Benshaw if you're unable to locate a distributor in your area, or if you'd like our assistance in determining which distributor is authorized to serve your location.

He or she can provide you with access to our Distributor Resource Center, a special section of this website reserved for authorized Benshaw distributors. You'll find an electronic (PDF) version of Benshaw's current product catalog in the resource center, along with a variety of other marketing tools to help you represent Benshaw products effectively.
Your Benshaw representative can also send hard copies of our Industrial Controls catalog and other sales collateral for use by your sales staff, on request.

How can I tell if our equipment would benefit from power factor correction?
Answer: Commercial and industrial power consumers typically seek to control power factor deviations in order to achieve more efficient utilization of purchased electrical energy. Power factor is a measure of the effective conversion of current into work output and is calculated as the ratio between the actual load power and the apparent load power. In any supply and distribution system, losses will occur as part of the normal transmission of electrical power through the system. Under ideal circumstances, a power factor of 1.0 represents the most efficient utilization of the distributed electrical energy. As loss is accumulated in the supply system, the power factor drops below unity and is typically measured as a percentage of this ideal situation.
A relatively poor power factor is typically generated by a significant phase difference between the voltage waveform and the current waveform at the load. It is most typically observed in the presence of an inductive load, such as an induction motor, a power transformer, ballast and the like. These are typically found in great numbers in industrial and commercial facilities. Moreover, in many industrial settings, the utilization of multiple inductive motors which are continuously being cycled on and off, in a random pattern, may cause unique discontinuities or phase differences between the voltage and current at the various loads. As a matter of efficiency and cost-savings, the increase of power factor, as close as possible to unity, represents not only a more efficient utilization of power, but a reduced cost of operation. In many situations, power companies apply premium charges to users who exhibit poor power factor characteristics.
Power factor correction is typically done in the form of the addition of capacitance to circuits which include induction motors. These are applied to reduce the inductive component of the current and, subsequently, reduce losses. In a typical motor load, a portion of the total current drawn by the motor represents the magnetizing current, which establishes the flux in the magnetic field required for motor operation. The magnetizing current is necessary for the motor’s operation, but does not contribute to the work output of the motor. In many cases, power factor correction is applied to reduce the effect of the magnetizing current of the motor.
